Once again, Vice President Joe Biden has been caught making an embarrassing speech error.
During a speech on Tuesday at the White House, Vice President Biden declared his intention to send 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine in order to aid that nation in its conflict with Russia.
Two minutes into his speech, the president was unable to speak without a huge blunder.
He turned around to acknowledge the work of the two men standing behind him: Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, whose name he could not recollect.
“The secretary of state and the secretary of the — of the military are behind me,” Biden said.
The president then looked to narrowly dodge another gaffe when he appeared to start calling Austin “speaker” but stopped after the first syllable.
Now, this may not be Biden’s biggest error, but the fact that it appears to be a reoccurring issue is alarming. On multiple instances, Biden has forgotten Austin’s name, among other details.

In March 2021, the president made no effort to recollect the secretary’s name or position, instead referring to him as “the person who manages that organization over there.”
In a speech delivered in December 2021, he once again could not recollect Austin’s title, referring to him as “the, the sec — secretary of the, uh, of the, uh — Secretary Austin.”
Biden is also baffled by other prominent figures than Austin. Numerous instances exist in which he has forgotten the names or titles of some of the most significant persons in American politics.
Last year, for instance, he could not recall the name of Kevin McCarthy, then-House Minority Leader and current House Speaker.

On a separate occasion, he referred to Mitt Romney, the opponent he and Barack Obama faced in the 2012 presidential election, as “the Mormon senator.”

The president mispronounced Kentanji Brown Jackson’s name last week, calling her “Kejan — Kejan — Kentanji Drown Jackson.” Jackson was nominated to the Supreme Court by the president last year.
Possibly most infamously, Biden once forgot the name of Barack Obama, the vice president he served.
