Watch: AOC Hosts Town Hall in the Bronx, Then Camera Turns and Exposes Who Was There to See Her

    Published on

Three months after being sworn into office for the first time, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was still the hottest name in Washington when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi threw a little shade at the trendy, young democratic socialist in April 2019.

Pelosi told a crowd at the London School of Economics, “When we won this election, it wasn’t in districts like mine or Alexandria’s — however, she’s a wonderful member of Congress I think all of our colleagues will attest,”

“But those are districts that are solidly Democratic. This glass of water would win with a ‘D’ next to its name in those districts,”  she continued, raising a glass.

At the time, it was simple to brush off the remark as sourpuss. Young progressives at the time remarked, “Okay, boomer.” It’s just elderly people’s envy, really.

The video clip is still one of Pelosi’s few moments of lucidity three years later. The novelty of AOC being elected to Congress has worn off. No one is interested in turning out to see a glass of water any longer, as her opponent in the November midterm election noted.

Tina Forte, a Marine Corps veteran and Republican running against AOC in the 14th District, showed on Wednesday just how little interest Ocasio-supporters Cortez’s had in a town hall meeting the same evening in a tweet.

This was Ocasio-weekly Cortez’s town hall meeting in her neighborhood of the Bronx.

The hall ought to be full, you’d think. The podium is being showered with flowers. jubilant cheers. moving about the aisles.

Instead, the town hall, which according to an AOC Twitter post was centered on “Legislative Victories & Opportunities for Constituents,” appeared to draw a largely disinterested audience, as seen in Forte’s video.

“AOC is having a Town Hall right now in the Bronx. Barely any supporters have shown up to hear from her,” Forte wrote in another Twitter post. “Most of the people in the room support me, not her.”

AOC remarked in one of the clips, “So, I’m looking out for you all,” Which is fairly simple given that hardly many of “you all” were present.
