VP Harris Loses Another Top Staffer Following Major Scandal

    Published on

Since gaining office, Vice-President Kamala Harris’ office appears to have been fitted with a revolving door, with employees leaving frequently. The turnover has continued and has been continuous. Harris’ leadership appears to be the issue.

Despite the fact that every departing employee is applauded when they leave their position, some on her staff have not been silent about the difficulties that come with working with Harris.

The Post detailed the unrest within Harris’ group in a lengthy article that was published a year ago. Staff members criticized Harris’ management style as being horrendously poor.

A former employee commented, “It’s clear that you’re not working with somebody who is willing to do the prep and the work. With Kamala, you have to put up with a constant amount of soul-destroying criticism and also her own lack of confidence. So you’re constantly sort of propping up a bully, and it’s not really clear why.”

The chief speechwriter for the vice president announced her departure in February, and Fox News at the time added:

This is far from the first resignation for the vice president’s team. The office has seen a virtual exodus over the course of her first year in office as staffers complain about their workplace morale.

Michael Fuchs, Harris’ deputy chief of staff, made his resignation known in the early spring.

According to The Post, Fuchs “Fuchs — a senior State Department official under former President Barack Obama, foreign policy adviser to former President Bill Clinton, and senior fellow at the Center for American Progress before joining the Biden administration last year — advised Harris on a range of domestic and international issues since taking office.”

Ashley Etienne, Harris’ director of communications, left her position in November in order to “pursue other opportunities.” That followed allegations of frustration between Biden’s and Harris’ offices due to Harris’ low approval ratings. Symone Sanders made the announcement that she would be leaving at the end of the year not long after Etienne left. Sanders, a key advisor and Harris’ main spokesperson, “will be missed,” according to Harris’ office.

Another member of Harris’ communications staff has now declared his resignation, as of this week.

According to a Politico article, Harris’ communications director Jamal Simmons, who joined the team in January to assist her in repairing her reputation after a turbulent first year in office, will depart before the beginning of the new year.

Simmons is relocating to New York City. According to a staff member, he has received kudos for “stabilizing” Harris’ office and motivating her to “get much more out there.”

    Breitbart News adds the following:

Harris’ chief of staff Lorraine Voles told staff in an email announcing Simmons’ departure that she hired him to help “steady the ship” of the vice president’s office and that he agreed to serve in the position for a year, according to the report.

High staff turnover continues to be an issue for the vice president’s office, particularly in the communications division.

According to Conservative Brief, Tina Flournoy, Harris’ chief of staff, announced her departure in April of last year.

The vice president remarked, “Tina has been a valued advisor and confidant to me and a tremendous leader for the office. From day 1, she led our team during a historic first year as we made progress rebuilding our economy here at home and our alliances around the world. Tina is the consummate public servant and I will continue to rely on her advice, counsel, and friendship.”

More on this story via The Republic Brief:

“Tina has been a critical member of the White House team since day one, working with the President and Vice President to make their partnership effective and help the administration deliver on critical priorities,” President Joe Biden’s Chief of Staff Ron Klain said. “Her experience, wisdom, and hard work have been instrumental to our success on many issues.”

    The Washington Post noted, however:

Flournoy’s departure is likely to revive career-long questions about Harris’s management style and the high frequency of staff turnover in her offices and on her campaigns. The move comes at a critical moment since the upcoming midterm elections — especially if Democrats suffer losses as expected — could clarify whether President Biden will seek reelection and prompt renewed attention on Harris as an alternative.
