Virginia Voters Boot Jan. 6 Committee Member from Her House Seat

A Republican who stressed the economics defeated a Virginia Democrat who cast the election as a struggle to preserve democracy on Tuesday.

In the race for Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, Republican Jen Kiggans was ahead of incumbent Democrat Elaine Luria by a margin of 52 percent to 48 percent with 95 percent of the polling precincts reporting.

Luria, a representative of the House select committee looking into the intrusion on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, focused her campaign on opposing former President Donald Trump.

Two Navy veterans competed in the race, and once the results were announced, both of them wanted to mend the wounds left by their bitter contest.

According to WVEC-TV, Luria reprimanded the jeers that came from the gathering at her headquarters after she claimed to have called Kiggans to congratulate her.

The Democrat asked “Please don’t boo”. “Because the success of the district depends on her success. This was a hard-fought race, and she won this election.”

    Kiggans was just as kind.

According to WHRO-TV, the Republican remarked, “I’d like to thank my opponent, Elaine Luria, who fought a hard-fought battle in this race,” “And although we may differ in our political ideologies, we certainly share a love for our Navy and a love for our country.”

According to PBS, Luria claimed that former Trump was “personally and directly involved” in efforts to rig the 2020 election and that his involvement was “part of a coordinated, multi-part plan to ensure that he stayed in power.”

She claimed that “These actions, taken directly by the president himself, made it clear what his intentions were: to prevent the orderly transfer of power.”

According to The New York Times, Kiggans claimed that she was aware of the main concern on voters’ minds during the campaign.

“The fact that our current congresswoman is going to focus on Jan. 6 — it’s very telling,” the Republican said. “She’s not focusing on what’s really important to the voters of the Second District.”

“It’s the economy, the economy, the economy,” she said.

Kiggans also said the election was a referendum on President Joe Biden, according to Fox News. CONTINUE READING…
