On Sunday, while his twin daughters were at home, two people were shot outside the Long Island residence of Republican Lee Zeldin of New York.
Mikayla and Arianna Zeldin, both 16 years old, quickly locked themselves in the upstairs bathroom and dialed 911 after hearing gunshots and screaming outside the house, the spokesperson claimed in a statement obtained by the Daily Caller. Zeldin and his wife Diana were in their car at 2:18 p.m. after seeing the Bronx Columbus Day Parade when the tragedy happened.
In the statement, Zeldin stated, “They acted very swiftly and smartly every step of the way and Diana and I are extremely proud of them,” Zeldin said in the statement.

The two victims were discovered lying in the bushes and under Zeldin’s front porch, according to the statement. According to reports, they were taken to the hospital.
Zeldin said that law enforcement had come to his house to gather surveillance footage of the incident from their in-home cameras. He continued by saying that the incident “shook” his girls and that crime has become rife in the state of New York.
“My daughters are shaken, but ok. Like so many New Yorkers, crime has literally made its way to our front door. My family is grateful to all who have reached out and we will provide another update when we can.”
