A left-wing comic who chose to disagree with an Elon Musk-enacted new Twitter moderation policy immediately paid the price.
On Sunday, Kathy Griffin was removed from the social media site for imitating Elon Musk.
Griffin chose to pose as Musk in order to directly challenge Twitter’s new owner. In an earlier Sunday tweet, Musk said that impersonating a prominent figure would result in a lifetime suspension.
Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying “parody” will be permanently suspended

Since Twitter’s beginning, impersonation has been prohibited, but policies prohibiting it were previously infrequently implemented.
Griffin responded by altering her Twitter account’s display name to “Elon Musk,” as reported by NBC News.
The progressive celebrity then continued to speak on Musk’s behalf, endorsing abortion.
Griffin, portraying Musk, said, “I’ve decided that voting blue for their choice is only right,” according to NBC.
Griffin soon discovered that the regulation was legitimate when Twitter suspended her account.

Griffin gained notoriety for a 2017 stunt in which the comedian tweeted a photo of herself holding a dummy Donald Trump skull that had been dismembered.
Musk himself addressed the suspension in a subsequent tweet, claiming that Griffin had been suspended for mimicking a comic, in what appeared to be a dig at his imitation.

Musk did mention that Griffin’s account may be restored, indicating that the suspension wouldn’t last indefinitely.
Additionally, a well-known left-wing podcaster who had attempted to imitate Musk in blatant defiance of the new Twitter policy had his account suspended.
