Tucker Carlson Considering Plan to Host 2024 GOP Debate Forum: Report

    Published on

Tucker Carlson, a former top-rated Fox News host, is considering a move that would enable him to exercise his considerable media clout in a manner that has never been seen before and would likely shake up the Republican presidential nomination process.

“Carlson … has aspirations of moving into a larger role that doesn’t limit him to a single medium, according to people familiar with his thinking. And he is willing to walk away from some of the millions that Fox is contractually obligated to pay him, if that would give him the flexibility to have a prominent voice in the 2024 election cycle,” the Washington Post reported Thursday.

Carlson’s ambitious plan is to moderate his own GOP candidate forum, independent of the Republican National Committee debate system, according to the Post, and he has reportedly discussed the concept with Donald Trump, the current frontrunner for the party nomination.

Fox is hosting the first legitimate primary debate, which Trump has threatened to boycott, according to The Washington Post.

The Post added that Carlson is working hard to avoid the fate of other former Fox News personalities who, after leaving the network, have found successful roles but far less influence than before.

“If I’m sitting in his seat right now, I’m plotting really my own media company, how I want to build it,” Joel Cheatwood, a former Fox News and CNN executive who helped found theblaze.com with Glenn Beck after he was forced out from Fox News in 2011, told the Post. “Whether you like him or not, there are very few individual brands out there that you can almost guarantee an incredibly significant following from day one.”

According to reports, Carlson’s present contract with Fox News is set to expire at the end of 2024, which may limit his current options. According to sources close to Carlson, he may be prepared to accept a lesser amount than he is owed in order to re-enter the media game sooner, the Post reported, adding that his attorney, Bryan Freedman, declined to comment.

Reportedly, multiple smaller cable news networks, including One America News, Newsmax, and Valuetainment, have approached the former Fox News icon.

Robert Herring Sr., founder and chief executive officer of OANN, praised Carlson for having “the largest and most passionate audience in cable news,” adding that his organization has “made our interest clear.”

    The Post also noted:

Newsmax, a conservative media company whose prime-time ratings increased last week while Fox was losing viewers in Carlson’s old time slot, has made a more compelling case.

According to a source familiar with the offer, Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy approached Tucker Carlson and his associates with a comprehensive proposal that included “rebranding Newsmax under Tucker’s name.” Carlson and his advisors are intrigued by the concept of his own media company, and acquiring an existing one would be simpler than starting from scratch; however, any potential deal would hinge on unresolved financial and editorial control issues.

Patrick Bet-David, chief executive officer of Valuetainment, has offered Carlson $100 million over five years and complete editorial control of the primarily streaming network, which has a significant presence on platforms such as YouTube.

Cheatwood speculated that if Carlson were to sign with a much smaller network, he would actually diminish himself and his own brand. “I just don’t think he needs it,” he told the Post. “He’s just so much bigger than they are.” CONTINUE READING…
