Trump Puts Establishment Politicians on Notice: Calls for 3 Reforms They’re Going to Hate

    Published on

When he launched his 2024 presidential campaign, former President Donald Trump took a swipe at the established Washington swamp by endorsing three significant reforms.

During an address on Tuesday at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump made his candidacy official.

Campaign finance reform, term limits for members of Congress, and a lifetime prohibition on lobbying by former members of Congress and Cabinet officials were all demands that the 45th president reiterated.

“To further drain the swamp, I will push for a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on members of Congress,” he declared. “It’s time.”

The audience gave that proposition a standing ovation right away.

The former president added, “And I will ask for a permanent ban on taxpayer funding of campaigns, a lifetime ban on lobbying by former members of Congress and Cabinet members.”

“I see what they make when they leave the White House or they leave Congress and they’re paid millions and millions and millions of dollars a year. No, you have to have a ban.”

Trump continued, “We want a ban on members of Congress getting rich by trading stocks with insider information.”

These reforms are excellent to implement in theory. Trump made draining the swamp in Washington, D.C., a primary aim of his administration when he first ran for president in 2016.

The establishment class, with its corporate media supporters and minions in academia and Hollywood, as well as the depths of the entrenched D.C. swamp, however, rejected and opposed his attempts.

We were all unaware of exactly how subtly the establishment elite had ingratiated itself into the foundations of both our political system and society.

Term limits for members of Congress and restrictions on the misuse of insider trade information have been proposed for many years, but with little success. Simply put, those in positions of power do not want to relinquish them.

Even the rules that are now in place to stop some wrongdoing are either not enforced or the punishment for breaking them is so mild that it has little deterrent impact.

As an example, in August, it was discovered that 71 members of Congress had violated a federal law aimed at preventing senators and representatives from using inside information to enrich themselves.

Under the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act of 2012, members of Congress are required to report financial trades worth more than $1,000 that they, their spouses or their dependent children made within 30 to 45 days of the transactions.

However, a bipartisan group of 71 legislators failed to properly report their trades, in violation of the STOCK Act, Business Insider reported. CONTINUE READING…
