Trump Makes It Clear: McConnell ‘Does Not Speak For the Republican Party’

    Published on

Former President Donald Trump is still disgusted with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, describing him as “a disaster.”

“We do have to do something about Mitch McConnell,” Trump said. “He’s a disaster. He gets his 10 guys, and they give [President Joe] Biden whatever they want. There’s something going on. That doesn’t make sense. They get whatever they want.”

“We got to get him the hell out,” he added. “He’s a problem, big problem. In the meantime, I hope he’s feeling well, but he’s a big problem.”

McConnell has been collaborating with President Joe Biden and Democratic legislators on bipartisan legislation, such as the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill from 2021 or the $1.7 trillion omnibus bill passed in December 2022. Trump’s remarks come as McConnell has been working on such legislation with Biden and Democratic lawmakers.

In January, Trump faulted McConnell for “unnecessary turmoil” within the Republican Party.

Trump wrote on his Truth Social account: “There is so much unnecessary turmoil in the Republican Party, in large part because of people like the Old Broken Crow, Mitch McConnell… who make it difficult for everyone by constantly caving to Hopeless Joe Biden and the Democrats.”

This week, McConnell was criticized for his inaction in helping to secure a deal prior to a potential June 1 default date for the United States.

“Mitch McConnell has been Senate GOP leader for 16 years, with multiple bipartisan deals under his belt. Kevin McCarthy has led House Republicans for four years—and been speaker for just four months—with little history of reaching agreements with Democrats,” the Wall Street Journal reported.

“But headed into the hard-fought talks over the debt ceiling, they made a critical decision that would shape how Republicans would negotiate with the White House: McCarthy would be in charge,” the outlet added.

McConnell returned to the upper chamber earlier this year after being hospitalized for weeks due to a fall that left him with a severe concussion and possible severe brain damage.

“The Republican bigshot, 81, banged his brain in a terrible March 9 tumble at Washington D.C.’s Waldorf Astoria hotel — nearly four years after another serious fall forced him to have shoulder surgery,” RadarOnline reported.

Following the accident, McConnell was admitted to the hospital for six days of treatment. After being released from the hospital, he was transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation facility for treatment of a brain injury.

According to one medical expert, this can result in “loss of consciousness, convulsions, seizures, lack of coordination, slurred speech, agitation, and confusion.”

This week, Trump made headlines with his response to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ filing to run for president in 2024.
