According to a recent poll, The Donald is still in charge.
Following last week’s midterm elections, a Politico/Morning Consult poll found that 47 percent of Republicans and independents who lean Republican would support the former president Donald Trump in a Republican presidential race.
With a margin of error of plus or minus two percentage points and a sample size of 1,983 registered voters, Trump is now by a wide margin the poll’s leader. The sample size for the GOP question was 842.
With 33 percent of the vote, Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis came in second. His resounding victory last Tuesday and upbeat victory speech elevated him to the status of a success story on a night when the GOP’s hopes for triumph danced ethereally out of reach.

After that, support for the remaining 14 candidates in the poll fell to single digits, with former vice president Mike Pence leading with 5 percent of the vote.
While 65 percent of respondents said Trump should not run again, 31 percent said he should either definitely or probably do so.
According to the poll, Trump has a 40% favorability rating.

A candidacy two years out for the 2024 election might be derailed by the aftermath from the events of January 6, 2021, lawsuits brought against him in New York, and the present controversy over his handling of sensitive documents.
