Trump Lawyers Want Meeting With AG Garland To Discuss ‘Unfair Treatment’

    Published on

The attorneys for former President Donald Trump have requested a meeting with U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to discuss what they perceive to be “unfair treatment” of their client.

Tuesday, the former president’s counsel sent the letter to the AG, according to Fox News Digital.

“We represent Donald J. Trump, the 45′ President of the United States, in the investigation currently being conducted by the Special Counsel’s Office. Unlike President Biden, his son Hunter, and the Biden family, President Trump is being treated unfairly,” the letter says, according to the outlet.

“No President of the United States has ever, in the history of our country, been baselessly investigated in such an outrageous and unlawful fashion. We request a meeting at your earliest convenience to discuss the ongoing injustice that is being perpetrated by your Special Counsel and his prosecutors,” it added.

    Fox News Digital also noted:

According to a source familiar with the investigation, Special Counsel Jack Smith has been working to conclude his investigation into the Trump classified documents case over the past few weeks.

It is unknown when Smith will reveal the results of the investigation and whether he intends to prosecute Trump.

After the FBI conducted a search for missing classified documents at Trump’s Florida estate Mar-a-Lago on August 8, 2022, Garland appointed Smith as special counsel in November 2022.

Garland has also appointed a special counsel to investigate the potential mismanagement of classified documents by President Joe Biden at his Washington, D.C. office and one of his Delaware residences.

In January, Robert Hur, who was appointed by Trump as U.S. attorney, was chosen to oversee the investigation. When he will provide an update on the status of his investigation is also unclear.

The New York Times reports that the former president sent a private message to Garland prior to the latter’s press conference following the investigation, in which Garland stated he “personally approved” the search for classified documents at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in August 2022.

Shortly before the press conference, someone close to Trump relayed the message to Garland.

“The nation is in flames. Trump’s message, according to the Times, was, “What can I do to reduce the heat?”

“First, I personally approved the decision to seek a search warrant in this matter,” Garland admitted during the press conference. “Second, the Department does not take such a decision lightly. Where possible, it is standard practice to seek less intrusive means as an alternative to a search, and to narrowly scope any search that is undertaken.”

According to subsequent reports, the Justice Department may pursue charges against the former president for violations of the Espionage Act, a century-old law that is rarely enforced.

Trump responded at the time to the raid on his Truth Social platform.

“The RAID was Politics, the Midterm Elections, and 2024. It’s another form of Election CHEATING – That’s all the Radical Left Democrats know what to do. They use the FBI & DOJ to try and dirty up their opponents, but the people of our Country are wise to them like never before. Be careful what you wish for!” he wrote.
