Tuesday night, a Cuban-American entrepreneur shook the political landscape in Connecticut with the support of former President Donald Trump.
Leora Levy beat two other candidates in the Republican primary to earn the opportunity to face longtime Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal in November.
Former Connecticut state representative Themis Klarides, the candidate backed by the state GOP, and immigration attorney Peter Lumaj were beaten by Levy.
According to NBC News, Klarides, who received 40.1% of the vote, yielded to Levy, who received 50.6% of the vote.

According to the Hartford Courant, Levy stated in her victory address, “We are making history here.”
“It’s really exciting. This is just chapter one. We’ve got the longer chapter ahead. … This has been an amazing experience for me,” she declared.
“My sister and I escaped communist Cuba. … This is our story, and our journey was tragedy and sacrifice,” added Levy. “But it was hope at the end. And we found hope here in America.
“My American dream is I am a candidate here for the U.S. Senate.’’
When Levy acknowledged her opponents, the audience began to boo.
“No, please, no booing,’ she pleaded.“We need to unify. They each ran aggressive campaigns. We agreed on some issues, but I know they love our country, too.’’
Levy stated that Trump’s backing was vital.
“I would like to thank President Trump. Thank you, President Trump, for your strong, clear, unequivocal endorsement. … I will not let you down. Thank you for having my back,” she added.
The Cuban-American did not hold back in his assessment of the Florida FBI raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home on Monday.
“That is un-American. That is what they do in Cuba, in China, in dictatorships,” she stated.
In November, she will compete against Blumenthal, who has never lost an election and is 76 years old.
Levy stated,“Here in Connecticut, Dick Blumenthal is Joe Biden. Dick Blumenthal supported defunding the police.’’
