Bill Barr, a former US Attorney General and supporter of the administrative state, came under fire from President Donald J. Trump on Friday after Barr made some bizarre comments on the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago earlier in the month.
On Friday, Barr made an appearance to defend the Department of Justice’s choice to raid Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence and take thousands of documents. Barr served as the former president Donald Trump’s attorney general up to the last few months of his administration.
Barr stated in a Fox News interview that “I think the driver on this from the beginning was loads of classified information sitting in Mar-A-Lago.”
“Barr made comments about the highly political raid after U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon on Friday released a detailed inventory from the raid, which showed that classified documents were discovered in boxes that also contained personal items like clothing and magazine articles,” according to Newsmax.
Trump’s legal team has asked Cannon to review a motion for a special master independent third-party figure to review records seized by investigators during the raid of his family’s Florida residence. Cannon is the same judge who is already evaluating that motion.
CNN added that more than 11,000 non-classified government documents were also recovered by federal officials.
Barr rejected Trump’s request for a special master in an interview with The New York Times, stating that, in his opinion, the inventory list made public by the judge supported the Justice Department’s argument that the FBI should be used to retrieve the documents in order to protect national security.
Barr asserted that “As more information comes out, the actions of the department look more understandable. It seems to me they were driven by concern about highly sensitive information being strewn all over a country club, and it was taking them almost two years to get it back.”
He told the Times that “It appears that there’s been a lot of jerking around of the government. I’m not sure the department could have gotten it back without taking action.”
According to the Times, when asked about the alleged requirement for a special master, Barr laughed.
Barr continued, “I think it’s a crock of shit. I don’t think a special master is called for,”
Trump criticized his former attorney general on his Truth Social page.
He stated in a message published late on Friday that Bill Barr “had ‘no guts,’ and got ‘no glory.
“He started off OK as A.G., but faded fast — Didn’t have courage or stamina. People like that will never Make America Great Again!”

In a separate Friday post, the 45th president also accused Barr of acting “very slowly” regarding special counsel Robert Mueller’s ‘Russiagate’ probe after Barr ripped Mueller for making a number of “errors” during the probe.
“I don’t think he was on top of his game,” Barr said of Mueller. “I think he made some very serious errors. CONTINUE READING…
