On June 24, a 73-year-old man from Philadelphia died after being battered with a traffic cone by a gang of youths.
James Lambert was crossing a roadway at 2:40 a.m. when he was apprehended by the gang, according to WCAU-TV.
Police have published security footage of the incident and are offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators.
The video appears to show three teenage ladies and four teenage boys participating in the assault.
The cone was thrown at Lambert as he crossed the roadway by one of them. The adolescents then after him, with one girl carrying the cone above her head.
“The teens struck the victim several times with objects, knocking the victim to the ground causing injuries to his head. The victim was transported to the hospital where he died of his injuries the following day,” according to a police report.
Lambert’s family informed Danny Freeman of WCAU that they are devastated by his passing. He was known as “Simmie.”
“They’re in disbelief a group of kids did this,” Freeman tweeted.
This is James “Simmie” Lambert, the man who was killed.
His family tells me they’re heart broken and they saw him just hours before he was attacked.
