In his first public remarks since the significant court decision was announced to send abortion back to the states for legislative control, Justice Samuel Alito said last week that overturning Roe V. Wade with a Supreme Court judgment was a great pleasure for him to write.
According to Alito, “I had the honor this term of writing, I think, the only Supreme Court decision in the history of that institution that has been lambasted by a whole string of foreign leaders who felt perfectly fine commenting on American law.”
Alito used his appearance on Thursday at the University of Notre Dame Law School in Rome as an opportunity to slam and mock the arrogant Prince Harry of the United Kingdom, who last week appeared in front of the cameras to criticize the court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade by drawing comparisons to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Harry, who has only shown his contempt for America since he and his American wife moved here, suggested that the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade is an example of the “threats to democracy and freedom” that the world has been facing recently in a speech to the UN headquarters in New York City, of all places.
“Alito, 72, drew laughter with his scathing speech at a conference on religious liberty in Italy, his first public remarks since the landmark 1973 abortion rights decision was overturned.
The exiled UK royal’s speech — which cited “the rolling back of constitutional rights” in the US as proof of “a painful year” — was far from the only non-American whose criticism Alito dismissed,” according to The New York Post.

However, Alito would have final authority.
A Slate reporter named Mark Stern tweeted: “His Rome speech on religious liberty, Justice Alito mocked foreign leaders who condemned his opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, including Boris Johnson, Macron, Trudeau, and … Prince Harry.
Johnson, who announced his resignation July 7 amid a succession of scandals, had called the Supreme Court ruling a “big step backwards.”
Alito said of Boris, “He paid the price.”

President George W. Bush selected Alito in 2005, and many of his earlier contentious rulings had to do with defending religious freedom. In his speech on Thursday, Alito made a comment on what he called “hostility to religion.”

“The problem that looms is not just indifference to religion, it’s not just ignorance about religion,” he said. “There’s also growing hostility to religion, or at least the traditional religious beliefs that are contrary to the new moral code that is ascendant in some sectors.”
“Unless the people can be convinced that robust religious liberty is worth protecting, it will not endure,” he said.
But what was most notable to social media about the speech was the slam on Harry that was so cringe-worthy.
