    SCOTUS Just Made Rare Decision To Suddenly Halt GA Election

    Using the pandemic as justification, the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020 triggered large, major modifications to voting processes.

    Changes were adopted abruptly, such as the extension of early voting and mail-in voting.

    The precedent for making adjustments close to an upcoming election has been created, despite the fact that the epidemic is over and there is no longer an emergency.

    Therefore, legal fights are raging about how much redistricting may be launched so soon to the midterm elections in November, when this is not often the case.

    Typically, redistricting is related to the results of the U.S. Census, which is conducted every ten years and will be finished in 2020; however, the epidemic is also believed to have influenced redistricting.

    In Georgia, electoral processes and redistricting are producing a level of litigation not often seen this close to a big election, such as the elections in November.

    The United States Supreme Court is focusing on one case.

    A group of Black leaders filed suit against the state, alleging that the Republican-controlled General Assembly authorized a redistricting scheme that dilutes the Black vote in two of the five PSC districts last year.

    Tim Echols, the Athens-representing Jackson County Republican on the Georgia Public Service Commission, warns that Democrats may gain seats as a result of the current conversation.

    Echols said that his and colleague PSC member Fitz Johnson’s seats will not be on the ballot for the November election, which might put them in peril.

    “Echols says the legislature will likely have to change the election law before the next PSC elections can be held.

    Both Echols and Johnson were to have Democratic challengers in elections that will take place nine weeks from today,” local news station WGAU reported.

    Echols also slammed Fulton County Superior Court Judge Melynee Leftridge for ruling that Democrat Patty Durand can be on the ballot for the November election for a seat on the GSC. CONTINUE READING…
