The fact that political hacks like Biden prioritize short-term optics over long-term repercussions is one of the ugly parts of politics.
Biden picked a picture opportunity over what will almost probably have long-term repercussions that result in thousands of deaths elsewhere in the world in addition to American deaths.
My gut churned as I read more about the prisoner swap that involved Brittney Griner and Viktor Bout. Because Griner accepted her guilt and wasn’t “unjustly imprisoned,” it isn’t the case. Griner wasn’t freed because she wouldn’t salute the flag or sing the national anthem; rather, it was because the arrangement, made so Biden could pose for photos with Griner and her hubby, will result in the loss of lives. Identity politics and political theater are at their worst.
Viktor Bout was formerly listed as the second-most wanted man in the world, just after Osama Bin Laden. A bargain that proved to be too good to be true enticed him away from the security of mother Russia. He was detained, put on trial, found guilty, and given a 25-year sentence. The terrorist Bout is. Because he sold weapons for profit and didn’t care about the lives lost as a result of his company, he acquired the moniker “Merchant of Death.” He is the worst person ever. He is a nasty human sham and a total waste of space.
In a sting operation, Bout attempted to sell surface-to-air missiles to South American drug traffickers before being apprehended in Thailand. The DEA agents were actually the “drug dealers.” Bout refused to acknowledge his culpability. Despite a sea of evidence, Russia backed him and maintained his innocence. All those involved in his arrest were “blacklisted” by Russia, which meant that none of them could enter the country without risk of being falsely accused like Paul Whelan.
Bout was described as the most dangerous guy on earth by the DEA agent in command of the operation and Bout’s arrest. Each and every person who was engaged in Bout’s arrest and conviction had best be able to turn on a dime. Just as I am certain that the sun will shine, Bout will exact his vengeance. He always does it. He is the Lord of War, the Merchant of Death, and we just exchanged that evil for an arrogant admitted criminal. Why? A photo opportunity?
This outcome has Satan’s blessing.
