A former member of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s staff has accepted a senior position with a political organization whose policy positions and manifesto are diametrically opposed to the founding principles of the United States.
According to the New York Post, Justine Medina, a former aide for the self-described democratic socialist party in New York, worked as a political coordinator in 2020 between February and November, but is now a senior official for the New York Communist Party.
According to the Federal Elections Commission, AOC paid Medina a salary in excess of $35,000 per year.
The Daily Caller further stated:
Medina was named “Co-Chair of the New York Young Communist League” by People’s World, a Communist Party newspaper after the 2020 Presidential Election. Today, she is identified as a member of the “Executive Committee of the New York State Communist Party,” according to the same publication
Prior to and throughout her employment with Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, Medina’s ideology manifested in her social media posts.
“Communism is about equality, democracy, peace, the advancement of workers, the oppressed, and humanity in general,” Medina wrote on Twitter. “It is true the path there will be unkind to those who block progress, but Communism is good and should not scare you.”
According to a March tweet, when she worked for the New York Democrat, Medina was responsible for “organizing and writing policy language with Anti-War Veterans & the Peace Movement.”

The lawmaker continues to follow Medina on Twitter, according to the Daily Caller, and Medina has photos with the leader of the “Squad.”
Medina utilized the attention she received from the New York Post article to promote a “Rent Rollback” protest against New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Eric Adams in a Saturday tweet.
@NYCMayor wants to raise your rent. That’s why we’re taking to the streets to demand a #RentRollback. Join us on Saturday, May 20: https://t.co/OYYuDL7VW6 pic.twitter.com/CrcFWZcpFC

“If y’all can be in NYC on May 20th, come out to this,” Medina wrote. “Every housing rights group and socialist organization is going to be there — we are coming together to DEMAND accountability from our electeds.”
Medina’s participation in progressive demonstrations is not limited to this single event. She was detained twice during the Black Lives Matter riots in June 2020. She expressed her dissatisfaction with the police’s use of zip-ties on Twitter, where she criticized their severity.
In addition, she was arrested for her participation in an attempt to deface a plaque commemorating Fred Trump in Woodhaven, Queens.
The Post added that Medina played an important role in the unionization of Amazon’s personnel. Her participation was instrumental in thwarting the company’s intentions to establish a New York City headquarters.
According to the Federal Election Commission, Medina’s father, Cuban-American attorney Omar Medina, has contributed significantly to political candidates including Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton. In addition, he has a history of legal issues, including having his license suspended for making false statements on behalf of a client and facing litigation related to allegations of wage theft, according to the reports.
