A prominent Republican has threatened to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress for refusing to hand over a document that allegedly contains incriminating evidence against President Joe Biden.
“House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer is threatening to hold FBI Director Chris Wray in contempt of Congress for failing to hand over an internal document that Republicans claim shows … Biden was involved in a ‘criminal’ scheme with a foreign national,” the UK’s Daily Mail reported.
According to statements made by other Republicans, the internal unclassified FD-1023 form allegedly contains details of an alleged “arrangement” involving the exchange of money for policy decisions.
“If Wray fails to produce the records by May 30, the committee said it will initiate contempt of Congress proceedings,” the news source added.
Comer stated in a letter sent to Wray on Wednesday that he is taking measures to limit the scope of the document subpoena. As part of this endeavor, he has added two additional terms, “June 30, 2020” and “five million,” that may be referenced in the record.
“The FBI’s refusal to produce this single document is obstructionist,” stated Comer in his letter.
In a statement to the Daily Mail, the FBI relied on a questionable national security claim.
“The FBI’s mission is to protect the American people. Releasing confidential source information could potentially jeopardize investigations and put lives at risk,” the bureau’s statement said. “The FBI remains committed to cooperating with Congress’s oversight requests on this matter and others as we always have.”
Monday, Oversight Committee investigators who are working on the “influence-peddling” investigation met with FBI officials, who refused to provide the subpoenaed document.
The publication stated further:
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced over the weekend that the FBI was poised to hand over the potentially incriminating document, prompting the meeting on Monday.
McCarthy stated that he had a conversation with Wray last week and believed that after their conversation, Republicans would “get this document.”
“I explained to the director that we will do everything in our power, and [that] we have jurisdiction over the FBI – that we have the right to see this document,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) said.
The most recent FBI obstruction occurred after a second IRS whistleblower alleged that he was marginalized in the Hunter Biden investigation after voicing concerns regarding the preferential treatment of the president’s son.
According to documents obtained by DailyMail.com on Monday, an unidentified case agent involved in the Hunter Biden investigation stated that he was fired without explanation last week. As outlined in the documents provided to congressional leaders, the agent had been conducting the investigation since 2018.
