Pence To Campaign For GOP Representative Who Voted To Impeach Trump

    Published on

Former Vice President Mike Pence and Former President Donald Trump have not always agreed on everything. Trump lost Pence’s support as concerns about the 2020 presidential election voting reached a boiling point, and a clear distinction was made between those who adamantly believe that the election was rigged and those who do not. As vice president, Pence decided against contesting the results in favor of certifying them.

Even if Pence is still well-liked and does well in some polls, it is Trump who receives the majority of support from Republicans and conservatives nationwide.

The distinction between “True Republicans” and “RINOs” among Republicans is still prevalent in some areas. Looking at who supported or helped the Democrats in their efforts to impeach Trump during his presidency is one of the numerous criteria used to evaluate this distinction.

Overstepping that line during the impeachment process were several House Republicans. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, Tom Rice of South Carolina, Dan Newhouse of Washington State, Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, Anthony Gonzales of Ohio, Fred Upton of Michigan, Jaime Herrera Beutler of Washington State, Peter Meijer of Michigan, John Katko of New York, and David Valadao of California voted in favor of impeaching the president for “incitement of insurrection.”

Some of the lawmakers who voted against Trump were already known to lean more to the left than the president, while others shocked the Republicans. But all, according to those who backed the president, cemented themselves in the RINO camp by doing so.

In fact, out of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for his alleged involvement in the attack on January 6, four of them chose to retire, and the other four lost their primary elections to Trump-backed opponents. The only one of them, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-Wash. ), prevailed over a rival favored by Trump.

The former vice president previously ran for office as a competitor to Trump, traversing the nation and raising millions of dollars for GOP candidates and Republican organizations. He broke with Trump when Pence assisted in certifying the 2020 election.

Before the November elections, some GOP candidates have turned to Pence to increase their appeal to more liberal voters.

Pence supported Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) in his primary contest against Trump-backed GOP rival David Perdue, marking their most public breakup. Earlier this year, Kemp defeated Perdue in the contest.

Kari Taylor Robson, a Republican running for governor of Arizona against Trump-backed Kari Lake, who easily defeated Robson in the primary and is now taking on the Democrat, has also received Pence’s support.

In contrast to his previously stated opinion regarding the 2020 elections, Pence is supporting Senate candidate Blake Masters in Arizona, where one-third of voters are registered as independents. Masters has struggled to change course from the primary and win over moderates. Even though Masters rejected the 2020 election results during the primary, Pence, who was then vice president, decided to certify the results and vowed to support Masters. In a video he made, Masters expressed his belief that Trump had won. He also asserted on his website that  “if we had a free and fair election, President Trump would be sitting in the Oval Office today.”

“Blake knows that the ‘Crime of the Century’ took place, he will expose it and also, never let it happen again.” Trump said in a statement endorsing Masters in June.

    Politico reported in July:

“Pence, who is considering a bid for president in 2024, has been stepping up his criticism of Trump. During a March appearance before a Republican National Committee-hosted donor retreat in New Orleans, pence made a veiled jab at Trump over his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pence also spoke out against his relitigation of the last election, declaring that ‘elections are about the future’.”… CONTINUE READING…
