Former vice president Mike Pence spoke to Republican electors in Des Moines, Iowa, during a CNN Town Hall on his 64th birthday.
Strangely, the event occurred on the same day that Chris Licht, the head of CNN, was dismissed by the network, in large part because he supported a Trump Town Hall that prompted the “most trusted name in news”‘ dissenters to openly revolt.
Pence, a former congressman, governor, and Trump ally from Indiana, spoke with host Dana Bash for 90 minutes about a variety of topics, including his desire to become president, abortion, and Ukraine.
Regarding the events of January 6, he cast Trump and the MAGA Patriots under the bus.
Trump was misled to believe that the vice president could annul the election, according to Pence.
I had the impression that he was requesting that I choose between him and the Constitution. I opted for the Constitution. And I forever will.
I stated that President Trump was in error both then and now.
However, he went even further and stated that Trump should never again serve as president.
Whoever places themselves above the Constitution should never be elected president. And anyone who requests others to place themselves above the Constitution should never again be elected president.
If elected, Pence has indicated that he will not grant amnesty to any J6 members:
You may recall that on January 6, I issued a tweet urging people to abandon the Capitol. And reasons.
I previously stated that those who failed to comply should be prosecuted to the utmost extent of the law, and I continue to hold this view.
Mike Pence when asked if he would pardon any J6 prisoners
“I have no interest or no intention of pardoning those that assaulted police officers, or vandalized our Capitol.”

Pence presumably was unaware of the most recent news regarding that day, which stated that hundreds of protesters were admitted by Capitol Police.
During the incidents of January 6, a Capitol side door was largely unguarded and unlocked. According to police security footage obtained by the media, more than 300 individuals were permitted unhindered entry into the Congress building, despite officers’ efforts to keep protesters out of other areas.
Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisconsin, first raised concerns two years ago about an incident that occurred in a hallway in the midst of the Capitol around 2:30 p.m. that afternoon, just prior to the occurrence of other breaches.
According to the footage, a sign clearly identifies the fire evacuation door for an emergency exit on the private Upper West Terrace hallway, where Capitol Police officers direct a few protestors.
The sign reads “Emergency exit only” and instructs evacuees to “push until the alarm sounds” in order for the “doors to unlock in 10 seconds.” After one individual leaves, 308 people pass through it in less than 20 minutes; the doors then appear to open from the inside.
Even if they had chosen to switch to CNN at that juncture, it is likely that many Republican voters turned off the television.

Former FBI agent Steven Friend, who worked on the January 6 case before leaving after disclosing what he deemed to be violations of defendants’ civil liberties, stated that the footage could assist certain defendants in court.
“I think it’s sort of a game changer. I mean, here, they didn’t even position authority figures there who would admonish folks not to use that door,” Friend declared. “And that’s the Capitol, the people’s house. And I think there was a general sentiment among people there who even might have thought that it was more of just a regular tour of the building.”
