Op-Ed: If Republicans Want to Get Serious About Winning Elections, They Need to Take These 3 Steps

    Published on

Things did not go as smoothly for Republicans as they had hoped after a significant red wave was predicted for this midterm election.

Republicans narrowly regained the majority in the House but Democrats kept control of the Senate.

Here are three important conclusions from last Tuesday, notwithstanding the fact that there is much disagreement over the precise cause of the Republicans’ performance.

    1. An enormous number of mail-in ballots

Democrats typically perform better with mail-in ballots than Republicans typically do with Election Day in-person voting, as is now widely recognized.

In the end, Republicans in state legislatures across the nation ought to adopt laws outlawing all mail-in ballots, with the exception of those cast by service personnel serving abroad.

A risk of widespread mail-in voting is the potential rise in voter fraud. In 2020, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton released an opinion piece on the subject.

“My office has conducted over 300 investigations of mail-in ballot fraud. Our investigators have spoken with thousands of victims of mail ballot fraud over the years, and they commonly tell us they were pressured and harassed by campaign workers to sign up to vote by mail, vote a certain way, or hand over their ballots,” Paxton said.

“The common denominator in mail ballot fraud is that the votes of the victims are canceled and replaced by those of paid campaign workers. Every fraudulent vote disenfranchises a lawful voter by canceling out their lawful vote.”

Republicans need to have a backup strategy in case we are unsuccessful in getting mail-in ballots eliminated, so they can beat Democrats at their own game.

It can be discouraging when Democrats win with a large number of mail-in votes, but whining about it while doing nothing to change the situation is ineffective. Republicans need to either abolish mail-in ballots or become more adept at ballot initiatives than Democrats if they want to perform better in future elections.

    2. Bad candidates

While there were many excellent candidates in this election season, several of them fell short of expectations, which discouraged conservative voters and helped Democrats retain the Senate.

For instance, Dr. Mehmet Oz of Pennsylvania, a candidate for the Republican nomination for the Senate, had a history of adopting a moderate stance on issues like abortion and gun control, which did not sit well with many on the right.

Alex Salvi of Newsmax mentioned several other Republican nominees whom Democrats supported, knowing they could be vulnerable in the general election.

While there needs to be unity among voters, we also need solid candidates to bring forth maximum enthusiasm that includes independent voters.

    3. Current Republican leadership needs to be replaced.

On Wednesday, Senate Republicans re-elected Mitch McConnell as minority leader in a private vote. Having received 37 votes, CONTINUE READING…
