President Joe Biden made it official on Tuesday: he desires your confidence as the leader of the free world until January 20, 2029.
In a video announcement titled “Let’s Finish the Job,” Biden began with images of chaos from the Capitol invasion on January 6, 2021, and protests surrounding the overturning of Roe v. Wade. This was followed by footage of Biden appearing presidential, embracing people, and restoring the democracy, among other things.
The video cut between these two themes to underscore that the increasingly fragile 80-year-old president is the only person capable of piloting the nation through this storm.
Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms. I believe this is ours.
That’s why I’m running for reelection as President of the United States. Join us. Let’s finish the job. https://t.co/V9Mzpw8Sqy pic.twitter.com/Y4NXR6B8ly

Never mind that America’s persistently low approval ratings indicate disagreement.
According to Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, Joe isn’t just asking America to let him pilot us through the tempest; he’s also implicitly asking us to agree to Vice President Kamala Harris taking over in the future.
“You know, he’s announced his — that he’s running again in 2024,” Haley told Fox News on Wednesday.
“And I think we can all be really clear and say with a matter of fact that if you vote for Joe Biden, you really are counting on a President Harris,” the former South Carolina governor said.
“Because the idea that he would make it until 86 years old is not something that I think is likely,” she said.
GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley predicts Biden would not make it through a second term:

There are, of course, skeptics, such as the writer for Bulwark, Will Saletan, who pointed out that, according to the Social Security Administration, the average 80-year-old male can expect to live 7.74 years longer.

However, the average 80-year-old male is not also performing one of the most demanding occupations in the world — one that leaves commentators stunned by how much it typically ages a two-term president.
In addition, we are dealing with a particular 80-year-old male who is already doing this:

So, yeah — maybe we can toss out the Social Security Administration data here and assume, based on a single specific datum whom we’ve observed campaign for and then occupy the White House, that he’s asking us to endorse the very real possibility of a President Kamala Harris in the near future.
And if there is anyone in Washington who is currently more detested than Joe Biden, it is Kamala Harris.
According to the RealClearPolitics polling average as of Friday morning, Biden has a 43% approval rating and a 53% disapproval rating. Harris, meanwhile, has a 38.5% favorable to 54.5% unfavorable rating.

That’s a 5.5 percent spread between the minus-10.5 percent Biden is running in the approval polls and the minus-16.0 percent that Harris has achieved. CONTINUE READING…
