Representative Mo Brooks announced that he is willing to testify before the January 6 Committee after losing the Alabama Republican Senate primary run-off, which occurred after he lost Trump’s support.
People reports that Brooks attributes his loss to former President Donald Trump’s withdrawal of his endorsement after he stated that Republicans must move past election fraud claims and begin focusing on the upcoming midterm elections.
President Trump stated in a statement that he rescinded Brooks’ endorsement when he became “woke.”
“Mo Brooks of Alabama made a horrible mistake recently when he went ‘woke’ and stated, referring to the 2020 Presidential Election Scam, ‘Put that behind you, put that behind you,’ despite the fact that the Election was rife with fraud and irregularities,” Trump said in a statement.
The former Trump supporter who attended the president’s Stop the Steal rally on January 6 told CNN on Wednesday that he will testify on the requirement that “it be in public so the public can see it — so they don’t get bits and pieces dribbled out.”
In May, Representative Brooks received a letter requesting his testimony before the committee on January 6, but he declined. He is now anticipating receiving a subpoena after notifying the House select committee of his change of heart.
The panel’s chairman, Rep. Bennie Thompson, told CNN that the committee is in the process of serving Brooks with a new subpoena and that Brooks is “the only member we had not been able to serve.”
