McCarthy’s path to 218 votes for speaker is getting more complicated

    Published on

The race to become Speaker of the House and to shape the eagerly expected committee hearings, which are certain to delve deeply into the huge and historic corruption of the Democrat Party and draw some Never Trumper- RINOS into the conflict, is currently in full swing.

The post has very high stakes, and supporters of America First are praying for a candidate who has backbone this time around and a steely will to truly hold traitors accountable.

Conservatives are wary of the idea of yet another “flip-flopping” game-playing member of the GOP holding the position because the previous Republican Speaker of the House, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), was nothing more than a lefty in disguise.

US Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), the minority leader, was chosen by the party’s members to fill the position last week. The majority of people agree that Democrats would never vote for him because he didn’t have enough support from the “nomination to run” vote to actually seal the deal in a final vote.

McCarthy, the minority leader, has been uninspiring; despite spending the last several days acting like a flamboyant firebrand in front of the cameras in an effort to gain the position and more support, many people were upset with him.

Republicans who have yet to be convinced by McCarthy’s newfound resolve are known as holdouts.

Concerning the chance that McCarthy won’t be selected as Speaker, Nicolas Ballasay wrote for Just The News:

McCarthy’s road to 218 votes to become speaker is becoming more difficult.

Rep. Andy Biggs, a former chairman of the House Freedom Caucus who ran against McCarthy for speaker said, “I don’t think that he’s going to get to 218 now or by January 3.”

“House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy’s path to 218 votes for speaker of the House is getting more complicated as the start of the new Congress fast approaches,” according to Ballasay.

Five conservatives have so far stated their intention to vote against McCarthy, and the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, Pennsylvania Rep. Scott Perry, expressed disappointment with the nature of talks with the GOP leader.

McCarthy would need a majority of the members present and voting on the House floor to support him in order to become the next speaker, according to the Congressional Research Service (CRS).

“He’s [McCarthy] actually said that he’s not for impeachment,” former House Freedom Caucus chairman Rep. Andy Biggs told Just the News on Monday, referring to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“I don’t know how you can look at the borders issue, especially with the Title 42 issue, which is going to bring up another 50 or 60% per day illegal immigration and then release them into the country over the Title 42 issue, without saying Alejandro Mayorkas needs to impeached,” said the Arizona Republican. “It just takes that kind of leadership to push forward on all of these policies that impact Americans’ lives on a daily basis.” CONTINUE READING…
