Liz Cheney, a U.S. Representative from Wyoming and the daughter of Trump adversary Dick Cheney, is running against Harriet Hageman for reelection.
Cheney’s campaign has continuously emphasized her opposition to Trump, particularly in relation to the issue of the 2020 election’s voting integrity.
Cheney must have understood that opposing the former president might not assist her in her own election chances as Trump’s popularity continues to rise in polls around the country.
While polls consistently show a fall in support for the incumbent president Joe Biden, they equally consistently show a rise in support for Donald Trump as a candidate in 2024.
Cheney might have anticipated losing her present contest.
According to public opinion surveys, Cheney was expected to lose on Tuesday in the Republican primary for Wyoming’s whole congressional district.
She fell far behind Harriet Hageman, a politician and attorney who has Trump’s support and endorsement as the former president seeks to unseat Cheney from her House position in a state where he received a staggering 70% of the vote in 2020.
Despite such figures, Cheney made sure that people were aware of her opposition to Trump.
Cheney declared late last week that preventing Donald Trump from becoming president will be her top political mission moving forward.
“America cannot remain free if we abandon the truth. The lie that the 2020 presidential election was stolen is insidious. It preys on those who love their country,”she stated I n her final campaign video addressing Wyoming voters. “It is a door Donald Trump opened to manipulate Americans to abandon their principles, to sacrifice their freedom, to justify violence, to ignore the rulings of our courts and the rule of law.”
The source also said:
Cheney was the most senior of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach the then-president on a charge of inciting the deadly Jan. 6, 2021, storming of the U.S. Capitol.
The attack was waged by right-wing extremists and other Trump supporters who aimed to disrupt congressional certification of President Biden’s Electoral College victory in the 2020 election.
In recent interviews, Cheney was clear about her priorities:
In a late-month interview with “Fox News Sunday,” Cheney stated, “I am working hard to earn every single vote.”
But she went on to say, “Given the choice between maintaining my seat in the House of Representatives on the one hand or ensuring the survival of our constitutional republic and ensuring the American people know the truth about Donald Trump, I will choose the Constitution and the truth every day of the week and twice on Sunday.”
Dick Cheney, a former vice president who played a key role in the closing advertisement for the three-term lawmaker’s primary campaign, said he and his wife Lynne “are so proud of Liz for standing up for the truth, doing what is right, and honoring her oath to the Constitution when so many in our own party are too scared to do so.
“Liz is fearless. She never backs down from a fight,” according to the senior Cheney.
When Donald Trump was president, Dick Cheney and Trump parted ways as rivals. Dick Cheney was vice president under former president George W. Bush.
It is clear that the senior Cheney feels strongly about Trump.
He continued by saying that “there is nothing more important she will ever do than lead the effort to make sure Donald Trump is never again near the Oval Office. And she will succeed.”

Liz Cheney also took aim at Hageman for her strong support for Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was “rigged.”
“Like many candidates across this country, my opponents in Wyoming have said that the 2020 election was rigged and stolen. No one who understands our nation’s laws, no one with an honest, honorable, genuine commitment to our Constitution would say that. It is a cancer that threatens our great Republic,” Cheney said.
