An investigation by the Department of Justice into Hunter Biden will shortly conclude, as a plea agreement has been reached.

The son of President Joe Biden will plead guilty to two federal charges of wilful failure to pay federal income taxes, according to court documents filed by federal prosecutors on Tuesday.

According to sources cited by NBC News as having seen the full plea agreement, United States Attorney for Delaware David Weiss will recommend that Hunter Biden receive probation for the two tax offenses.

Biden has consented to enter a pretrial diversion agreement to resolve a charge of possession of a firearm by a drug user or addict, according to the filing.

According to The New York Times, the agreement would require that the president’s son abstain from drugs for two years and never own a firearm again.

Chris Clark, the criminal defense attorney for Hunter Biden, told NBC News that he “understands that the five-year investigation into Hunter has concluded.”

Clark stated that Hunter will accept culpability for two counts of misdemeanor failure to file tax payments when required.

“A firearm charge, which will be subject to a pretrial diversion agreement and will not be the subject of the plea agreement, will also be filed by the Government,” he said.

“I know Hunter believes it is important to take responsibility for these mistakes he made during a period of turmoil and addiction in his life. He looks forward to continuing his recovery and moving forward,” he said.

Weiss’s office issued the following statement: “Hunter Biden earned taxable income in excess of $1.5 million per year in 2017 and 2018. Even though he owed more than $100,000 in federal income taxes each year, he did not pay the required amount.

The reaction to the news was severe.

“Hunter Biden pleading guilty to a gun charge and misdemeanor tax charges with no jail time is a stunt to make him look like he is just cooperating with the [Department of Justice],” Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia said Tuesday on Twitter.
