GOP Needs 1 More Seat to Take House Majority – Here’s Where Remaining Races Stand

    Published on

Republicans continue to target the House, where tight elections may soon deliver a razor-thin majority for them, as the projected red wave in the midterm elections recedes.

To gain the 218-seat majority in the House, the GOP needs one additional member. Democrats have won 205 House races, with 13 still up for grabs.

California is home to nine of the undetermined contests, according to Fox News.

In another election, Alaska’s House seat was won using the new ranked-choice voting system in the state. Sarah Palin, a former governor, is currently in second place, followed by Republican Nick Begich, a representative for the Democratic Party.

Voters rank their top contenders in ranked-choice elections. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the first-place votes, voting is repeated, with the candidate receiving the fewest votes being eliminated.

Maine’s 2nd Congressional District is likewise slowed down by ranked-choice voting and is rated as a toss-up in Fox’s power rankings. Democratic incumbent Rep. Jared Golden is in the lead, followed by Republican former Rep. Bruce Poliquin. On Tuesday, more voting is expected.

Rep. Lauren Boebert, a Republican, was leading by just 1,000 votes as of Tuesday in the Colorado 3rd District. Although the final results could not be known for a few days when out-of-state mail-in ballots are received, she is the favorite.

Democratic candidate Yadira Caraveo is leading Republican Barbara Kirkmeyer in Colorado’s 8th District, which is thought to tilt Republican. Results for the district also depend on mail-in votes.

Republican Kevin Kiley is in the lead over Democrat Kermit Jones in California’s 3rd District. The ballots have been tallied to a little over half.

In California’s 6th District, Democratic incumbent Rep. Ami Bera is ahead of Republican opponent Tamika Hamilton.

Republican Tom Patti is easily defeated by Democratic incumbent Rep. Josh Harder in California’s 9th Congressional District.

Republican John Duarte is only about 800 votes ahead of Democrat Adam Gray in California’s 13th District.

In California’s 21st District, incumbent Democratic Rep. Jim Costa is ahead of Republican Michael Maher by more than 7,000 votes.

In California’s 22nd District, incumbent Republican Rep. David Valadao is ahead by 3,000 votes, but Fox’s power rankings list the race as a toss-up.

California 27th District incumbent Republican Rep. Mike Garcia has a substantial lead over Democrat Christy Smith. CONTINUE READING…
