After allegedly scamming her elderly mother of hundreds of thousands of dollars, Catherine Areu Jones, a left-wing commentator who previously frequently appeared on Fox News, has been charged with a number of felonies.

According to numerous sources, including WTVJ and WBFS-TV, 51-year-old Jones, who also went by the name Cathy Areu, is suspected of kidnapping her 88-year-old mother, forcing her into an assisted-living facility, and then robbing more than $200,000 from her.

Jones, formerly known as the “Liberal Sherpa,” was a regular guest on Fox News where she frequently gave Tucker Carlson the progressive viewpoint on contentious issues.

The most notorious positions Jones took were not changing a baby’s diaper without consent and letting babies choose their gender.

According to The Blaze, Jones complained of sexual harassment against Carlson and other Fox News anchors in July 2020, but her case was ultimately dismissed.

The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office filed a number of charges against her on Friday.

The accusations include elder exploitation, conspiring to commit an organized fraud scheme, kidnapping, false confinement, and illegal use of identity documents.

According to reports, Jones was initially accused of elder abuse in 2019, when the Department of Children and Families received a complaint about her.

Jones “involuntarily place[d] her mother in assisted living facilities so that she could take financial gain of her mother’s banking account,” the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office claimed in a press release.

Jones accomplished this by informing her mother they were taking her grandchildren to have ice cream. Instead, she brought her to an assisted living home and disclosed to the workers that her mother had dementia.

Jones allegedly instructed workers to remove her mother’s phone and ensure that she had no visitors after her mother requested assistance.

More on this story via The Western Journal:

Her mother was eventually released after facility staff and personnel from DCF determined that she did not have dementia as her daughter claimed.

Jones and a co-conspirator later forced her mother into a different facility, reports indicate. This time, a neighbor called police about the incident and a judge issued a warrant for Jones’ arrest in June. CONTINUE READING…
