It was challenging to watch.
John Fetterman, the Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate from Pennsylvania and lieutenant governor, struggled during their Tuesday night discussion with Dr. Mehmet Oz.
Critics of Fetterman have consistently questioned whether the Democrat is physically capable of handling the demands of serving in the Senate. The debate performance by Fetterman didn’t quite answer these queries. After having a stroke in May, the former mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania, severely curtailed his campaign appearances in public.
Fetterman has dismissed concerns about his own health.
According to The Washington Post, doctors for the Democratic candidate have said Fetterman difficulties with auditory processing as a result of the stroke in May.
Before what would be a string of confusing responses in which the nominee struggled to articulate himself, Fetterman’s first response in the debate seemed as though it were a final message.
Despite his confusing response, Fetterman seemed to be saying that he favors Pennsylvania’s fracking energy sector.
Oz pointed out that Fetterman had been consistently supported by his family as an adult, with his sister eventually selling him his property for $1, and Fetterman struggled to formulate a counter in yet another odd reaction.
When the panelist inquired about Fetterman’s policy differences with President Joe Biden, he appeared completely baffled for a few seconds.
The Democrat completely failed to provide any concrete policy information regarding his ideas to combat inflation, instead choosing to criticize Oz on a number of personal levels.
Moderator: "Has the Biden administration overspent and, if so, where do you think [it] should be cut." You have 60 seconds."

According to Axios, national Democrats were alarmed by Fetterman’s difficulties during the debate, which was the only one for the Pennsylvania Senate race.
The outcome of the election, which is one of the most hotly contested in November’s midterm elections, might determine which party has the majority in the Senate.
According to Politico, polling shows that Oz, a doctor and media personality, is routinely outperforming Fetterman.
