Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman is being criticized on social media after posting a photo of himself with an unusual flag.
On Thursday, the Democratic senator, who was recently discharged from the hospital after being treated for clinical depression, took to Twitter to commemorate 4/20, a worldwide holiday celebrated by cannabis consumers.
The caption on Twitter read: “It’s 4:20 on 4/20. This is the tweet,” above a photo of Fetterman holding a flag with the words “It’s 420 somewhere” and a marijuana leaf in the backdrop.
420 is a colloquial term for marijuana.

Many social media users were appalled and disturbed by the sight of a sitting member of Congress promoting a hazardous behavior that is still illegal under federal law.
One Twitter user stated categorically, “You’re encouraging a federal crime.”
You’re encouraging a federal crime. Seems on brand, actually.

Others expressed concern on Twitter that the senator was so openly promoting marijuana use despite his grave health issues. One said, “Rehabilitation did not help,” while another said, “You should probably abstain from marijuana until your mental faculties improve.”
Oh, my. Rehab did not help.

This is the primary issue with this poorly conceived tweet. Clearly, it is reckless and negligent for a sitting member of Congress, such as John Fetterman, who has severe mental health issues that could be exacerbated by marijuana use, to promote drug use.
This is the latest in a series of publicity stunts performed by Fetterman and his PR team to make the senator appear more likable and diminish the severity of his health issues.

But all this does is show people that Fetterman, his team, and his family, are not taking his health issues seriously at all. CONTINUE READING…
