Fetterman Advisor Lashes Out at Journalists – Can’t Ask Questions Senator Won’t Understand

    Published on

Democrat John Fetterman’s adviser in Pennsylvania chastised reporters on Tuesday for the way they interrogated Fetterman.

“He is still recovering from a stroke and has lingering auditory processing challenges. The way Hill reporters are used to yelling questions at Senators will not work here,” commented Rebecca Katz, a political analyst and Fetterman advisor, on Twitter.

She was responding to a tweet from Igor Bobic of the Huffington Post who said that Fetterman ignored him while he was shouting a question at him.

Reporters condemned Katz’s comments. “John Fetterman is not deaf. He does not wear hearing aides… are we to understand he cannot understand words being spoken to him?” The Spectator’s Stephen L. Miller penned this while Andrew Feinberg of the Independent recommended that “we employ cue cards, ‘Love Actually’ style.”

Katz’s remarks coincide with ongoing concerns about Fetterman’s health and eligibility to serve in the Senate. After winning the Pennsylvania Senate Democratic primary on May 13, Fetterman experienced a stroke. He spent nearly four months in the hospital before returning to the campaign trail in August.

Republicans made smearing Fetterman’s health a cornerstone of their election plan. On September 30, Republican candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz and outgoing Republican Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania held a joint event to demand that Fetterman provide all of his medical records, which he had previously refused to do.

These concerns came to a climax in the discussion between Oz and Fetterman on October 25. In an appearance that was roundly criticized by Democrats, Fetterman was clearly unable to react to questions from Oz and the moderators. Following the discussion, polls continually showed that Oz was ahead of Fetterman.

Later, on November 8, Fetterman defeated Oz in the general election. However, as required by Pennsylvania law, the mailing of mail-in votes for the election started on September 19, approximately 50 days before Election Day.

An inquiry for comment was not immediately answered by Fetterman’s office.
