Those who knew her and watched her life were devastated by Ivana Trump’s demise at age 73.
The champion skier, model, businesswoman, and immigrant to the United States from the Czech Republic was and is a fiery example of drive and persistence in life, as well as beauty, style, and happiness.
The New York City medical examiner determined that she died of “blunt impact injuries to the torso” after her corpse was discovered on Thursday at the foot of a staircase at her townhouse in Manhattan.
She was the only child of Marie, a telephone operator, and Milos, an engineer who died in 1990. She was born in Zlin, an industrial town in then-Communist Czechoslovakia. Ivana skied competitively as a youngster and was a member of the national ski team; the sport served as a metaphor for her life, according to People magazine.
Ivana reminisced in her interview with the magazine on how skiing had taught her to rely on herself.
“When you are going down a mountain at 80 miles an hour, you cannot count on Mama or Papa,” she previously told PEOPLE. “You have to count only on Ivana.”
In 1977, she met and married Donald Trump in New York.
In the 1980s, they were a much sought-after power couple.
Ivana Trump was a skilled entrepreneur, an athlete, a writer, a varied apparel and jewelry designer, and, most importantly, a proud mother cherished by her children, according to People Magazine.
The couple split in 1992, and both went on to have subsequent relationships.
