David DePape, the man who used a hammer to attack Paul Pelosi at 2:30 a.m. on Friday, is described by many establishment news organizations, a growing group of Democrats, and liberal influencers as a raging, right-wing MAGA lunatic.
But as numerous people—including Elon Musk—have noted, DePape’s background is much more nuanced than that. He doesn’t exactly fit the stereotypical MAGA mold because of his nudist activism, his prior work creating hemp jewelry, and reports that he is a homeless drug addict, according to the New York Post.
Sunday morning, when Elon Musk appeared to fact-check former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, who had joined other Democrats in blaming Republicans for the attack on Pelosi, including President Joe Biden, he shocked the social media world. Musk continued by saying that it’s possible that there may be more to the tale.
Clinton told her 31.7 million Followers on twitter that Republicans must be held accountable for the attack, citing a Los Angeles Times article on DePape.
“The Republican Party and its mouthpieces now regularly spread hate and deranged conspiracy theories. It is shocking, but not surprising, that violence is the result. As citizens, we must hold them accountable for their words and the actions that follow,” Clinton tweeted.

In typical Democratic fashion, Clinton omitted to offer evidence that DePape’s criticism of Pelosi was motivated by the Republican Party. To many, the attack appears to have been motivated solely by untreated mental illness and to have nothing to do with politics.
Musk, who officially took over Twitter on Friday, seized the opportunity to address Clinton’s unfounded charge.
He tweeted in response to Clinton’s post, “There is a tiny possibility there might be more to this story than meets the eye,”
An apparent link to a blog post from Smobserved.com written by a person going by the name of “Stan Greene” was attached by Musk. According to an alternative theory presented on the website, Paul Pelosi and DePape got into a fight in the middle of the night that was akin to a lover’s quarrel.
After news broke on Saturday that Pelosi had called DePape a “friend” during the 911 dispatch call, that theory gained traction in some circles.

However, as Smobserved itself noted in an update of its article, San Francisco police said Sunday that there was no evidence the two men knew each other prior to the attack.
Musk has since deleted his tweet, which some saw as an attempt to troll Clinton’s baseless accusation with another rather than an endorsement of the article’s claims.
While the debate of whether or not DePape was a right- or left-winger continues, the New York Post obtained an eye-opening comment from a woman who is allegedly one of DePape’s former neighbors. She described a scene that is as far removed from MAGA politics as one can possibly get. CONTINUE READING…
