Elon Musk Begins ‘Digging In’ on Popular Twitter Account’s Shadow Ban and Something Quickly Becomes Apparent

    Published on

The bird has been set free, along with the CatturdTM, it appears, now that Elon Musk is Twitter’s self-described “chief twit.”

If you don’t know what it is, it’s not some neologism the kids use. Because the person behind the popular conservative Twitter account CatturdTM is politically incorrect and pro-Donald Trump, and makes no apologies for either position, the account has been shadow banned.

Musk only became leadership of the social media behemoth on Thursday, but Mr. Turd (is that his real identity, right?) had a busy day.

He tweeted the following at 7 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday: “Report … day one of @elonmusk owning Twitter. I’ll be doing this every day to see if anything changes. As of now, I’m still Shadowbanned, ghostbanned, searchbanned, and Twitter removed 1200 followers today – as usual. Nothing has changed – I’ll report again tomorrow.”

When a social media network “shadow bans” or “ghost bans” a user, their remarks become practically invisible to everyone but the individual. His tweets won’t appear in your feed until you directly go to the CatturdTM page. Additionally, good luck finding him because his page won’t be suggested even when you type “catturd” into the search bar due to a practice known as “search banning”. (It’s not like the word is a common search term, after all, and those who type it in without looking for CatturdTM are the users I think Twitter should de-platform.)

In the same breath as claiming that shadow banning and search banning of conservative personas isn’t truly a thing, social media corporations and tech journalists assert that it is.

( “perhaps you notice how the denial is so often the preface to the justification.” to paraphrase Christopher Hitchens.)

Whatever the case, Mr. Turd said, “I realize changes can’t happen in one minute – but I’m going to report the daily progress – learn to Twitter.”

But the “chief twit” was working:

According to tweets from CatturdTM on Friday afternoon, Mr. Musk’s “digging in” resulted in some interesting adjustments.

More on this story via The Western Journal:

A “search suggestion ban” prevents your profile from coming up in search results, whereas a “search ban” prevents all tweets from showing up in results, even if an exact phrase matches, according to the blog PR News. It’s worth noting that, as of Saturday morning, I was able to search Mr. Turd’s Twitter handle and his profile was suggested to me — but there’s no update from the man himself and your mileage may vary.

Furthermore, Catturd™’s follower count has skyrocketed since Musk took over the company, and he thinks it’s not because Musk himself responded to his tweet. CONTINUE READING…
