DOJ Redacts Reasons For Redacting Info In Mar-a-Lago Raid Affidavit

    Published on

From the moment the FBI raided his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, former President Donald Trump has demanded that the FBI and DOJ be transparent and that the search warrant be made public.

Trump commented on August 15: “in the interest of TRANSPARENCY I call for the immediate release of the completely Unredacted Affidavit pertaining to this horrible and shocking BREAK-IN.”

Since the raid, Trump has claimed that the U.S. government did not provide him “with any reason for the unprecedented, general search of his home.”

He also alleged the FBI took “privileged and/or potentially privileged materials,” and other articles “that were outside the lawful reach of an already overbroad warrant.”

In a Rasmussen survey released on August 18, 44% of potential U.S. voters said the raid made them less inclined to trust the FBI, compared to 29% who said the raid made them more likely to trust the FBI.

In 2018, a PennState poll found that just 39% of Republicans have faith in the FBI to do the right thing “most of the time” or “just about always.” This is in stark contrast to the 61% of Democrats who had this view.

54% of Republicans surveyed by PennState said the FBI was “biased against President Trump and his agenda.”

When the Department of Justice did not provide the warrant’s affidavit, it became clear that they had redacted portions of it.

Trump filed a motion on Monday asking the appointment of a “special master” to independently oversee the assessment of the objects removed from Mar-a-Lago.

In the brief, Trump’s attorneys requested the federal judge to delay the DOJ’s search of “seized papers” until the appointment of the “special master.”

Trump stated in the motion, “We have just filed a motion in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida strongly asserting my rights, including under the Fourth Amendment of our Constitution, regarding the unnecessary, unwarranted, and unAmerican Break-In by dozens of FBI agents and others, of my home, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.”

The purpose of the affidavit was to shed light on the motivations behind the Mar-a-Lago raid.

Everyone has been awaiting this explanation.
