Democratic Consultant Arrested After Caught ‘Forging Signatures’ to Get Clients on Ballot

    Published on

Following allegations of a Philadelphia Democratic consultant breaking the law, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has once more been mentioned in connection with election security.

Rasheen Crews, the consultant, was detained on Wednesday and accused of falsifying voter signatures to get his clients on the ticket.

The Daily Caller claims that Crews reportedly committed these felonies during the Philadelphia primary elections in 2019.

Josh Shapiro, the incoming governor of Pennsylvania and attorney general, issued a statement following the arrest outlining the offenses and stressing the value of fair elections.

“In advance of the 2023 municipal elections, this arrest is an important reminder that interfering with the integrity of our elections is a serious crime,” according to Shapiro.

“By soliciting and organizing the wide-scale forgery of signatures, the defendant undermined the democratic process and Philadelphians’ right to a free and fair election. My office is dedicated to upholding the integrity of the election process across the Commonwealth, to ensure everyone can participate in Pennsylvania’s future.”

According to the Daily Caller, investigators discovered that other Democratic candidates paid Crews to put them on the ballot.

Gaining a predetermined number of constituent signatures, having them notarized, and submitting them are the requirements for obtaining ballot access.

Authorities allegedly discovered that Crews enlisted the help of three people at a nearby hotel room to fake the names and addresses.

The Daily Caller reports that more than 1,000 of these signatures were determined to be duplicates, with “many names and addresses were found repeated on various petition pages.”

Authorities were notified by one of Crews’ customers, Jason Rubin, that he paid the consultant $2,500 to work for him.

Although Rubin claims to have handed Crews the notarized copies of the signatures he had obtained the traditional method, later discovered that “two of the pages had names added to the petitions after the pages were notarized and given to Crews by Rubin.”

After the signature irregularities were discovered, a large number of the applicants who Crews hired withdrew.

The police affidavit provides these specifics.

According to the AG’s office, Crews has indeed been accused of criminal solicitation to commit forgery and theft by failing to make a mandatory disposition.

The senior deputy attorney general is handling his case.
