According to a new story, President Joe Biden and his staff are considering declaring a public health emergency if the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade.
According to a New York Times story, Biden would utilize the proclamation of a public health emergency to insulate doctors from legal accountability for treating patients in an unlicensed state.
Other possibilities include permitting abortions to be performed on government property, such as military bases, by doctors licensed in states where abortions are illegal.
During an interview with ABC comedian and activist Jimmy Kimmel, Biden revealed his willingness to use executive action to nullify state and municipal abortion bans.
President Obama predicted that the overturning of Roe v. Wade would spark a “mini-revolution” in the United States.
“It’s just ridiculous in my view and I don’t think the country will stand for it, but I think what we’re going to have to do, there’s some executive orders I could employ, we believe, we’re looking at that right now,” he stated.
In politically tense situations, Biden’s team looks more than willing to weaponize emergency and wartime presidential authorities.
