At its winter meeting at the end of January in Dana Point, California, the RNC will elect a new Chair. Despite having held the position since 2017, current Chair Ronna McDaniel is facing competition from RNC National Committeewoman Harmeet Dhillon and My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell.

Recent disclosures about the RNC’s spending habits when McDaniel was in charge have increased calls for her resignation, with even conservative talk show personality Mark Levin saying, “She needs to go.”

On Friday, it was inquired of former president Donald Trump whether he preferred Dhillon over McDaniel for the seat after supporting McDaniel’s campaign after his victory in 2016.

    “I think they’re both good…”

“I like them both. It’s like when I asked Queen Elizabeth when we were together: ‘Which president did you like the best?’ She said: ‘I liked them all.’ ‘Which one did you like the best?’ ‘I liked them all. They’re all great.’ I said, ‘But didn’t you like Ronald Reagan the best?’ She said: ‘No I liked them all. I liked Ronald Reagan very much, but I liked them all.’ Then I said: ‘Which prime minister did you like the best? Was it Winston Churchill?’ ‘I like them all. I like every one.’ Then I realized how smart she was. I said, you know that’s why she stayed there for 75 years.”

Trump further admitted that Dhillon is his legal counsel, saying, “Harmeet is a lawyer for me you know.”

In addition, Dhillon has acted as an RNC representative.

from two Trump-aligned organizations last cycle, but Dhillon has assured members that, if elected chairwoman, she would break with Trump in order to uphold the RNC’s pledge to maintain neutrality in the 2024 presidential primary. According to federal election data, her law company earned roughly $900,000 from the RNC over the same time frame.

Dhillon has pledged to stop representing Trump if she becomes chairwoman, admitting that “it would be a conflict of interest” for her to continue doing so while the former president is still running for president.

Naturally, Lindell is another one of Trump’s close allies. Even if it’s not typically his approach, it makes sense for him to remain impartial regarding the RNC Chair contest given his declared campaign for president.
